Lizl & Denis’ modern chic wedding

1 Mar

Lizl and Denis are a such a wonderful couple! Their wedding was the perfect combination of touching moments, gorgeously soft yet modern details and big celebration at two gorgeous venues. L&D married at one of the most beautiful churches in Ottawa and then celebrated in style at the National Gallery of Canada and infused the entire day will so many lovely details!

I love it when couples send me their invites – makes me feel like I’m really part of the wedding. When I found out that the bride designed and hand-crafted the gorgeous invites herself I knew I had to incorporate it in their film some how. Lizl is so very talented and her amazing sense of style and eye for design touched every aspect of this celebration.

Speaking of talent, it was such a pleasure working with Derrick Rice on this wedding as I am a big fan of his work and really enjoyed filming alongside him. Thank you Lizl and Denis for being so in love and such great people!

A bollywood-inspired ending starring Sarah & Sanjoy

18 Jan

Sarah and Sanjoy were married last July along the banks of the Ottawa River. Their wedding was absolutely gorgeous and one I won’t soon forget. The bride elegantly embraced the groom’s Bengali Hindu background and was stunning in the traditional red and gold sari she wore for their ceremony. And just wait until you see the glittering lengha she wore to the reception in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of Civilization…

A wonderful surprise dance performance starring Sanjoy’s sister sweetly told the story of the couple’s courtship and brought everyone to their feet – it was the highlight of the reception and gives their wedding film a bollywood-inspired ending. Thank you so much Sarah & Sanjoy for allowing me the honour to capturing such a beautiful and joyous celebration.

Family First Films

13 Sep

Weddings aren’t the only magical time in our lives. We often overlook the everyday beauty that surrounds us and don’t recognize how precious moments are until they’ve already passed us by.  With that in mind, I’m proud to introduce a new service called the “Family First” film.

I’m hoping, in my own little way, to reignite people’s excitement about home movies – the same way I want to create wedding films that can be appreciated by anyone, not just the bride and groom, over and over again. The lovely Brooks family asked me and my vintage cameras to hangout with them (and document the most incredible tree-house I have ever seen…hand-made by poppa Leo!) on a midsummer evening, and the result is something I hope they can enjoy as much today as they can in 10, 20 and 50 years.

There are endless possible themes for family films beyond just parties and celebrations. A custom film can be inspired by a season, a favorite activity, a holiday, a meaningful location…or as you’ll see in the sample below, just a regular day hanging out in your backyard. Now any day can be that special day you’ll remember forever.

I can’t wait to spend some time with you and your loved ones and help capture some of the amazing big and little moments life has to offer.

Kyli & Cam’s country fair engagement film

29 Jun

Most couples about to tie the knot nowadays decide to book an engagement portrait session with their photographer. These photographs make great gifts and are often creatively incorporated into the wedding reception.

But what about taking this concept up a notch and having a custom love-story film created? An engagement film is not only a wonderful keepsake capturing this very special time in your lives but is also a unique, sweet and entertaining ode to your love to treasure and even screen at your wedding!

Meet Kyli & Cameron: two lovebirds who are set to marry on July 24th! These two are obviously very much in love and were just delightful to work with. So turn up the sound and get ready to enjoy a { First Kiss Films } Super 8mm p’tit film d’amour:

Rocking the frock on the farm

1 Jun

“Trash the Dress” shoots are gaining popularity with brides who realize that wearing their wedding dress for one day only just isn’t enough. With all the effort that goes into buying a dress and how quickly a wedding passes by it’s nice to get a chance to wear it once more and capture some fun footage in a location that is meaningful to the bride.

A warm thank you to Nancy and Scott for allowing me to make this film at their little piece of heaven and to Isabelle for helping to make this shoot one of the most fun I have ever done!
