Crystal & Aaron’s turquoise dream wedding

1 Nov

I looooooove sun-drenched weddings, and the sun shone all day at Crystal & Aaron’s summer wedding. A vibrant shade of turquoise was C&A’s cheerful wedding colour of choice and beautiful white lilies were everywhere.

I first met Crystal and Aaron at the Wedding Palace Bridal Show and it was the groom-to-be who first watched one of our super 8 wedding videos and immediately decided, “We need to have this at our wedding.” It’s so adorable when I see a groom excited about planning their big day! C&A planned their wedding down to every last detail and selected two gorgeous venues: their ceremony took place at Ottawa’s most stunning basilica and then the celebration moved to the lovely grounds of Orchard View Wedding & Conference Centre. Watch the trailer to get a glimpse their perfect day.

Congratulations Crystal & Aaron and thank you for the honour of choosing { First Kiss Films } as your wedding filmmaker.

Meagan & Jeremy’s charming countryside wedding

9 Aug

It was in lovely Picton, in the heart of Prince Edward County, where Meagan & Jeremy decided to wed. One visit to this region known for it’s gorgeous vineyards, beaches and charming rural culture and you will immediately understand why they chose to celebrate within this country-chic backdrop.

Of course the “chic” part of the wedding had much to do with the day’s details. I especially loved the classic yet eclectic choice of different Royal Doulton dinnerware patterns at every place setting. And speaking of the reception, rope lighting was a nice addition giving a warm glow to the rustic wood barn as guests danced the night away to live music by a local rock band.

If you haven’t guessed it by now the newlyweds are also very creative people. Jeremy has a background in media arts (the last shot of the film was actually his idea!) and Meagan has started her own wedding planning company! If this wedding is any indication of Meagan’s eye for detail I know she will be very successful with her new business.

5 ways to share your engagement film

22 Mar

The time spent as an engaged couple is short and sweet. Capturing your love on film before you tie the knot is the perfect keepsake from this short-lived and often innocent time in your lives.

Did you know there are many creative ways to incorporate a love story film into your wedding? Here are five ideas to get you thinking of how some of our clients have shared their concept film with the people who are nearest and dearest to them:

1)  Mail a copy of your engagement film along with your save-the-date or wedding invitations as the sweetest introduction to who you are as a couple. Your guests won’t be able to wait to watch your love film and find out all the details of your upcoming nuptials!

2) Post your film on your wedding website. Adding a custom, multimedia element to your website that will leave all your guests oohing and ahhing. A film that captures your life and love is a sweet introduction to your soon to be Mr. or Mrs. as some friends and family may not have a chance to get to know your fiancé before the big day.

3) Screen your film at your reception. Everyone loves to be entertained, and timeless footage of you and your fiancé is guaranteed to be a hit. Project your film on loop at the cocktail reception or grab everyone’s attention at once by dimming the lights and screening it during the reception.

4) Give a copy to each of your guests as thoughtful favours to thank them for sharing your special day with you. { First Kiss Films } are beautifully gift packaged so that can fit into the theme of any wedding. Give your guests a thoughtful parting gift they will treasure and enjoy for years down the road.

5) Keep your film for you and your fiancé’s eyes only. Knowing you may be the only ones to watch the film allows you to be as lovey-dovey, silly or as sexy as you like. Start an annual tradition to snuggle up on each wedding anniversary to watch and reminisce on what your lives were like before you officially said “i do”…

The sky is the limit when it comes to creative ways to share your love story film. Custom film packages start at $500 and require a minimum of four weeks to produce so please inquire early.

Lizl & Denis’ modern chic wedding

1 Mar

Lizl and Denis are a such a wonderful couple! Their wedding was the perfect combination of touching moments, gorgeously soft yet modern details and big celebration at two gorgeous venues. L&D married at one of the most beautiful churches in Ottawa and then celebrated in style at the National Gallery of Canada and infused the entire day will so many lovely details!

I love it when couples send me their invites – makes me feel like I’m really part of the wedding. When I found out that the bride designed and hand-crafted the gorgeous invites herself I knew I had to incorporate it in their film some how. Lizl is so very talented and her amazing sense of style and eye for design touched every aspect of this celebration.

Speaking of talent, it was such a pleasure working with Derrick Rice on this wedding as I am a big fan of his work and really enjoyed filming alongside him. Thank you Lizl and Denis for being so in love and such great people!

Nigerian nuptials

6 Jul

To wrap-up the third and final week of the engagement-themed series, I bring you something you may never have seen before: a Nigerian engagement ceremony! I had a blast shooting Tina & Bola’s celebration which included music, dancing, incredibly beautiful outfits, and a lots of fascinating traditions that were brand-new to me! What an exciting event for the bride, groom, their families and friends to take part in the evening before their wedding.

Kyli & Cam’s country fair engagement film

29 Jun

Most couples about to tie the knot nowadays decide to book an engagement portrait session with their photographer. These photographs make great gifts and are often creatively incorporated into the wedding reception.

But what about taking this concept up a notch and having a custom love-story film created? An engagement film is not only a wonderful keepsake capturing this very special time in your lives but is also a unique, sweet and entertaining ode to your love to treasure and even screen at your wedding!

Meet Kyli & Cameron: two lovebirds who are set to marry on July 24th! These two are obviously very much in love and were just delightful to work with. So turn up the sound and get ready to enjoy a { First Kiss Films } Super 8mm p’tit film d’amour:
