You are my joy

25 Sep

What’s better than spending the day with an adorable, creative couple and creating a film for them? Having the opportunity to do it twice! We so enjoyed creating the  hand-processed 16mm engagement film for Liana & Eimhin last summer, and this past May fell in love with them even more as we filmed their joyful wedding day.

And we were filled with joy when we read this sweet lovenote they sent:

“Eimhin and I just watched our wedding film and we can’t even believe how amazing it is.  We are blown away!!  You captured every single detail we could have hoped to have as a memory, and made it all look beautiful beyond our wildest dreams.  I cried, obviously:)  We can’t thank you enough for this film.  We will treasure it forever. Also, working with you has been such a pleasure from day 1 and we hope to have you record other special moments in our lives.

Liana and Eimhin”

Congrats you two!!

Liana & Eimhin’s adorable black & white engagement film

7 Jun

Imagine an afternoon filled with a sweet canoe trip under a paper parasol, vinyl records playing during a romantic picnic, kite flying with your sweetheart, and a game of scrabble under the sun. This is how Liana & Eimhin spent one afternoon together last summer, and it was all captured on our vintage movie cameras.

Liana & Eimhin came to us because they wanted a unique engagement film for their lo-fi themed wedding. So we brought our 16mm cameras and spent a day filming this adorable couple. We then carefully edited the footage by hand using a vintage flatbed editing system. Next, we hand-processed and printed their film to create the special beauty and texture that only real film can provide.

Their final film was unveiled last month at their wedding reception at the Canadian Museum of Nature. What makes L&E’s film even more unique is the actual 16mm print was screened on a custom looping system – no video projection here – fitting in perfectly with their analogue wedding theme.

Thank you to talented ladies at Sparrow Floral Design for the loop table decor and to Derrick Rice and his team of Union Eleven for capturing this image of the film installation moments before guests entered the salon.

Liana & Eimhin’s engagement film premiered at their wedding last month and is now online! Keep in mind this is a just basic telecine transfer of their final film and this version does not represent the true stunning beauty of watching a 16mm film the way it was meant to be screened: projected on film.

The sweetest words

15 Jan

We were so touched by the lovenote of thanks that Melissa & Mike sent us after they screened their vintage wedding film. Their day was perfect, right down to the double rainbow that appeared in the sky later that evening. We were thankful to have captured their big celebration on motion picture film, and a few months later grateful again when we received their words of thanks…

Kitchener and Waterloo wedding

“Bridget, thank you. A million times thank you.
We watched our film last night and it is incredible! The music and the moments you captured worked perfectly together. I cried the whole way through. We knew it would be amazing, but wow, you are a creative genius. Not only was the film perfection, but the packaging is genius, from the film canisters to the popcorn, you didn’t miss a single detail. We cannot wait to show everyone! This was truly the best investment we could have made. We’ll cherish it always!
I hope to work with you again in the future!

Natasha & Daniel’s delightful handmade vintage wedding

9 Jan

We realize that words will not do Natasha & Dan’s dreamy wedding justice…so thank goodness we have the entire day on vintage film to share with you! But for those of you who like to read some behind-the-scenes notes before watching a film, this is for you…

There were so many moments that touched us as we watched Natasha & Dan say “I do” and celebrate with their friends and family. From the groom’s emotional reaction to his gift from his bride-to-be (not to mention his jump for joy as he walked down the aisle!), to the bridesmaids excitement…even the sunshine cinematically punctuated the emotions of the day. Just like in a big-screen movie, the morning weather did not look promising for an outdoor ceremony. But moments before Natasha began dressing in her stunning wedding gown the sun poured in through the windows and the skies remained clear for the rest of the day. Amazing!

While Natasha was not responsible for the sunshine, she did bring together so many other details that warmed our hearts. We loved the glittering gold, pink and light turquoise colour scheme, the unique handmade ceremony backdrop set against a stunning outdoor vista, how the bridesmaids carried white, heart-shaped helium balloons instead of bouquets, their reception dripping with handcrafted details, and the cozy, romantic bonfire at the end the evening. Ready to see it all on 16mm and super 8mm film?

One more thing: Natasha & Dan’s vineyard celebration of love was just so spectacular that it will soon be featured on Four Weddings Canada – we just can’t wait to see it! Congratulations and lots of love to the sweet couple!

A mid Hallows Eve union

~ from the musical The Phantom of the Opera ~

It’s so fitting that today’s quote is taken from the stage. Patrice & Ted’s love of the theatre inspired a dramatic, masquerade themed wedding that was planned carefully down to every last detail. It was the perfect celebration of two creative, fun-loving, sweethearts in love.

A few words of thanks from the bride: “The film is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much! My family has been enjoying your video, I still can’t believe how perfect and touching (yet funny) it is. Ted and I were extremely impressed with the music and the moment that stood out the most to us is how you synced the guitar playing our first dance to the music in the video. Also the way you were able to capture tiny moments between my family and I, and Ted and I. There are times we exchange looks and mouth words and I know exactly what was happening and it means so much to me. And of course the sparkler dance moments were invaluable to the film!”

Corina & Brett’s downtown vintage chic wedding

10 Apr

Corina & Brett chose to break holiday tradition and marry on a crisp day between Christmas and New Years Eve. They did, however, want their wedding film to be “extra vintagey” so we left our 16mm cameras at home this time and filmed everything on super 8mm. The classic camera was a fitting choice for a ceremony in a gothic church, followed by a streetcar ride to their reception at a restored Victorian hotel.

Both talented writers, Corina & Brett met back in school while studying journalism at Carleton University. After a few years of dating and traveling the globe, Brett surprised Corina while they were in New York City by proposing with an antique 1909 Edwardian engagement ring. It was a romantic touch for what’s proven to be a good ol’ fashioned love story.

A Fairmont fairytale wedding

“In dreams and in love, there are no impossibilities.”
~ Janos Arany

I hand-delivered Maggie & Adam’s wedding film the night before Adam wrote his big law exam, but this lovely couple still took the time to send me this sweet email that very same night…

” We absolutely love the film!!! It’s so beautiful and artistic. You did an amazing job of capturing all of the special details and important moments. I especially appreciated that we had some very candid looks at our guests, who are very dear to us. Thanks so much for doing such a good job and for getting it to us before the holidays! I can’t wait to give our parents their copies. We will recommend First Kiss Films to everyone we know getting married.”

Maggie & Adam’s romantic vintage wedding film will be posted on Valentine’s Day – how fitting!
