It’s always so nice to see our work published on Style Me Pretty Canada. Head on over to see Emily & Cole’s rustic barn wedding beautifully captured by Red Button Photography and to watch the vintage film we created of this exquisite day. It’s one of our fav’s!

The films of Bridget Farr

films of bridget farr(AKA moi, Bridget Redmond).

I am honoured to announce that the Canadian Film Institute (CFI) will be hosting an evening showcasing some of my films! The program will include from the last 15 years – many of which were produced under my maiden name (Bridget Farr). Don’t expect to see any wedding films in the program though. Most of the films that have been selected are art films created for the festival circuit and are quite different from the films I craft through { First Kiss Films }.

According to the CFI’s Executive Director, “Bridget Farr’s work has been consistently daring, experimenting with film form and approaches to storytelling. She is one of Ottawa’s most talented film artists, and we are thrilled to present her works as part of our Cafe EX series.”

The big night takes place this Thursday, November 7th within Saw Gallery here in Ottawa. Nine films will be screened and even some will be projected on 35mm and 16mm prints – the way film was meant to be seen! I will of course be there to discuss my work.

Seen on Grey Likes Weddings

30 Apr

grey likes badgeWe have news to share! Earlier this month one of our films was selected by the stylish California-based blog Grey Likes Weddings. As only a handful of weddings are chosen each week we are quite excited to have been selected as a favourite.

If you haven’t watched the film of the gorgeous wedding that was featured by Grey, planned and styled to perfection by Allison Turner of Live Love Plan, and captured beautifully by Melanie Rebane Photography, then we invite you to view it here – it’s a must-see!

{ First Kiss Films } has also been invited to be part of The Grey Collective showcasing the “world’s best wedding vendors”. Thank you, Grey, for liking our vintage lifestyle films!

Last fall, { First Kiss Films } filmed one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever seen. But we weren’t the only ones with cameras at this gorgeous celebration. The reality show Four Weddings Canada selected Natasha & Dan’s big day to be one of four weddings featured on the show – and it premieres tonight!

It’s not known who will walk away as the winners but Natasha & Dan’s wedding was just so magical we can’t imagine them not taking home tonight’s prize. Afterall, both Style Me Pretty and NYC planner Melissa Dov both fell in love with their sweet event and already featured their wedding details and vintage film on their blogs.

So with fingers crossed we’ll be tuning in tonight to Slice TV, at 8:00pm and again at 11:00pm EST, to cheer on Natasha & Dan!

Toronto Star’s First Kiss

Weddings used to be a piece of cake... AFP/AFP/GETTY IMAGES

Corina Milic is a journalist and a bride-to-be. She would also “love one of (First Kiss Film’s) vintage films” for her own wedding. But she, like many women planning their wedding, is trying to understand the myriad of expenses that come with a wedding.

Ms. Milic has been sharing her experiences with Toronto Star readers about navigating her way through the wedding industry and recently interviewed { First Kiss Films } to get an inside perspective on the culture of weddings.  Here’s an excerpt of her article (one of a series) playfully titled “Seeking a little wedding drama, without the trauma”:

“Getting married is expensive. Canadian weddings cost on average $23,330, according to a 2011 WeddingBells magazine survey of 2,000 brides. That includes $1,798 for the average wedding gown, plus thousands more on must-have items like doves to release, monogrammed napkins, and separate brides’ and grooms’ cakes.

Speaking of which, do you know how much it costs to slice a wedding cake?

The going rate in Toronto is $3 to cut a slice, plus a flat fee for the caterer (whom you are already paying thousands) to cut and serve your cake (for which you have already paid hundreds). I feel like the wedding industry has sold me an inflated line and I have no choice but to buy it.

Not quite, says Bridget Redmond, founder of First Kiss Films, an Ottawa-based company that specializes in super 8mm and 16mm wedding films.”

Vintage film interview

12 Apr

One of my mantras is talk less, listen more.  So whenever I am asked to do an interview I need to make the sometimes challenging shift from observer to participant. But with the help of a great person conducting the interview, it can be really fun. Enter Kim Sullivan from EZ Rock. We met at the Genies and she’s such a delight! She asked me to be a part of her evening radio talk show called Night Cap and made me feel so comfortable as we chatted about my business and passion for film.

Here’s a little tidbit you might find interesting: we recorded this interview the day after I returned from a three-day silent meditation retreat. What a way to break the silence…turns out I was never at a loss for words.

Listen to this in-depth interview and learn more about my passion for 16mm and super 8mm film my clicking here now!
