Rock ‘n’ roll…underground

9 Jul

Late last December, I was invited to film an intimate and exclusive I Mother Earth show at the coolest concert venue ever: The Diefenbunker, a Cold War-era nuclear fallout shelter. IME is my husband’s favourite band and when I had contacted them about getting tickets, the band invited us to not only attend the show but to hangout with them backstage…as long as I brought my vintage movie cameras. Deal!

pregnant filmmaker

So armed with a few rolls of film, a hand-cranked 16mm bolex, and a huge belly (I was 8 months pregnant at the time), I navigated my way through 200 rabid fans to experience a night my husband and I won’t soon forget. All thanks to this super cool Canadian band.

Fans of IME knows that they’re really talented musicians, but that evening we discovered that they’re are incredibly nice guys too!

semaine de mode

16 Dec

Before we say goodbye to 2011, we’d like share one more film with you! We’re excited because it has a different vibe than most of our other films and that’s because it’s about a different kind of love – love of fashion, beauty & design.

This fall the sixth season of Ottawa Fashion Week  caused a lot of buzz in the Nation’s Capital and it certainly was a delicious event to capture on film! The sparkling new Ottawa Convention Centre hosted the Spring/Summer 2012 season and international clothing designers, as well as local musical and artisanal talent came together to inspire us all. Huge thanks to the talented band The PepTides for allowing us to score this film with one of their groovy songs.

Watch the film now for your very own backstage pass to OFW ’11!

Crystal & Aaron’s turquoise dream wedding

1 Nov

I looooooove sun-drenched weddings, and the sun shone all day at Crystal & Aaron’s summer wedding. A vibrant shade of turquoise was C&A’s cheerful wedding colour of choice and beautiful white lilies were everywhere.

I first met Crystal and Aaron at the Wedding Palace Bridal Show and it was the groom-to-be who first watched one of our super 8 wedding videos and immediately decided, “We need to have this at our wedding.” It’s so adorable when I see a groom excited about planning their big day! C&A planned their wedding down to every last detail and selected two gorgeous venues: their ceremony took place at Ottawa’s most stunning basilica and then the celebration moved to the lovely grounds of Orchard View Wedding & Conference Centre. Watch the trailer to get a glimpse their perfect day.

Congratulations Crystal & Aaron and thank you for the honour of choosing { First Kiss Films } as your wedding filmmaker.

Sophie & Ryan’s eternal engagement film

18 Oct

Sophie & Ryan’s engagement film was filmed on a warm summer afternoon at a location that was extra meaningful to them: a park close to their outdoor wedding venue. The three of us along with Hubert and Finnigan, two dogs they rescued, spent a few hours hanging out and filming some really sweet moments.

This film has a gorgeous authentic texture that you can only get with real film because it was hand-processed as part of an Infinite Film creation. The look of this film along with all the little charming textural elements you’ll notice are all genuine and part of the handmade process – nothing was added digitally. Enjoy!

P.S. If you enjoyed this just wait until you see their wedding film…

Yumi & Barry thought they wanted their wedding captured on video, until they saw our work on Style Me Pretty. And I’m so happy they found us!

This adorable, fun, and loving couple were such a joy to work with and their wedding was seriously amazing! Did I mention they are super creative as well? Until Y&B’s vintage wedding film is featured on the blog next week, get a glimpse of the bride & groom’s creativity  by watching their own save the date video creation which was featured on Wedthings, the Wedding Bells blog.

Yumi & Barry’s lovenote to { First Kiss Films }:

“HI Bridget!!

We LOOOVE our film!! Thank you so much for doing such an amazing job. You captured  our day so beautifully. We have so many favorite moments. We love the music, the sounds. We are so happy to have this keepsake for the years to come. By the way, our families and friends LOVED the film. We were all laughs, smiles, misty and teary eyed… I relive the day and all the feelings I felt whenever I watch it.  Barry and I have watched it so many times. We still can’t get over how lucky we were to have you film our day. Thanks again so very much!!!

Cheers,
Yumi and Barry

PS:  I am so pleased that you got our dog, Sydney on film too! And she winked at us :) – it was great!!! hehe”

Andrea & Bryan’s romantic seaside wedding in Jamaica

30 Aug

Sun, surf, and lots and lots of love.

Andrea & Bryan’s island paradise celebration was everything you’d imagine in a destination wedding inspired by the vibrant colours of the Caribbean. Magical beauty was everywhere with stem upon stem of colour-drenched orchids, an ocean-backdrop ceremony and tiki torches illuminating the beach during dinner and dancing under the stars.

Like many couples who decide to have a destination wedding, A&B hosted a reception back home. Since it was scheduled three weeks after their wedding day, their vintage film was a special rush delivery so they could screen it at their reception in Alberta. It was a very tight deadline but we managed to have it ready so their 100+ reception guests could experience their gorgeous wedding. And now you can experience it too!

Thank you Andrea & Bryan, for inviting { First Kiss Films } to film your sunset vows in Jamaica. It was such a pleasure being there to capture your love and see your adorable and infectious smiles light up the screen!

One love

23 Aug

 “One love, One heart
Let’s get together and feel all right.”

~ Bob Marley ~

The Caribbean light, cool breeze, an intimate gathering and the sweet beachside smiles of a freshly wed couple….what a perfect recipe for vintage cinema. A few words of thanks from the newlyweds:

“LOVE IT!!! AWESOME!!!! We both loved it and your music choices were great. We are soooo happy with it. We are both looking forward to sharing it with the family! I can’t wait to go and show it off. You captured the moments perfectly!!!!
Love, Bryan & Andrea”

A&B’s wedding film will be posted next – watch it and feel like you were a guest at this heartwarming sun & sand celebration.
