You are my joy

25 Sep

What’s better than spending the day with an adorable, creative couple and creating a film for them? Having the opportunity to do it twice! We so enjoyed creating the  hand-processed 16mm engagement film for Liana & Eimhin last summer, and this past May fell in love with them even more as we filmed their joyful wedding day.

And we were filled with joy when we read this sweet lovenote they sent:

“Eimhin and I just watched our wedding film and we can’t even believe how amazing it is.  We are blown away!!  You captured every single detail we could have hoped to have as a memory, and made it all look beautiful beyond our wildest dreams.  I cried, obviously:)  We can’t thank you enough for this film.  We will treasure it forever. Also, working with you has been such a pleasure from day 1 and we hope to have you record other special moments in our lives.

Love,
Liana and Eimhin”

Congrats you two!!

A mid Hallows Eve union

~ from the musical The Phantom of the Opera ~

It’s so fitting that today’s quote is taken from the stage. Patrice & Ted’s love of the theatre inspired a dramatic, masquerade themed wedding that was planned carefully down to every last detail. It was the perfect celebration of two creative, fun-loving, sweethearts in love.

A few words of thanks from the bride: “The film is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much! My family has been enjoying your video, I still can’t believe how perfect and touching (yet funny) it is. Ted and I were extremely impressed with the music and the moment that stood out the most to us is how you synced the guitar playing our first dance to the music in the video. Also the way you were able to capture tiny moments between my family and I, and Ted and I. There are times we exchange looks and mouth words and I know exactly what was happening and it means so much to me. And of course the sparkler dance moments were invaluable to the film!”

Corina & Brett’s downtown vintage chic wedding

10 Apr

Corina & Brett chose to break holiday tradition and marry on a crisp day between Christmas and New Years Eve. They did, however, want their wedding film to be “extra vintagey” so we left our 16mm cameras at home this time and filmed everything on super 8mm. The classic camera was a fitting choice for a ceremony in a gothic church, followed by a streetcar ride to their reception at a restored Victorian hotel.

Both talented writers, Corina & Brett met back in school while studying journalism at Carleton University. After a few years of dating and traveling the globe, Brett surprised Corina while they were in New York City by proposing with an antique 1909 Edwardian engagement ring. It was a romantic touch for what’s proven to be a good ol’ fashioned love story.

And what would a sneak peek be without a love note?

“Bridget, We watched our wedding film last night (several million times) and it is wonderful! Thank you so much! We relived the day while watching it, as I’m sure you hear a lot. You managed to get some shots that we didn’t have – finding a nice (read: not under scaffolding) angle of the church, footage of both Brett and I dancing with our parents together and some of the decoration details. You shot extra footage during the reception, which was above and beyond what we asked for (hugely generous). Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is makes up a very special part of our wedding and we are grateful that you created it. xo Corina”

Corina & Brett’s super 8 wedding film will be unveiled next week!

I hand-delivered Maggie & Adam’s wedding film the night before Adam wrote his big law exam, but this lovely couple still took the time to send me this sweet email that very same night…

” We absolutely love the film!!! It’s so beautiful and artistic. You did an amazing job of capturing all of the special details and important moments. I especially appreciated that we had some very candid looks at our guests, who are very dear to us. Thanks so much for doing such a good job and for getting it to us before the holidays! I can’t wait to give our parents their copies. We will recommend First Kiss Films to everyone we know getting married.”

Maggie & Adam’s romantic vintage wedding film will be posted on Valentine’s Day – how fitting!

Yumi & Barry’s sweet & whimsical wedding

27 Sep

When reflecting on their wedding day, Yumi & Barry shared how,“Words cannot describe the joy we felt and the love that surrounded us.” I truly felt that love as soon as I met them and throughout their entire wedding day.

I think it is adorable that Yumi & Barry were married at the church where they first met in a wedding that united their families and cultures (Filipino & Indian). They are the nicest couple, and creative too! Yumi breakdances (snippets captured on the 15 minute version of their film) and many of the whimsical wedding details were DIY. There were so many things I loved about this wedding but I have a soft spot for father-daughter dances. So when I saw Yumi dance with her dad to a number he personally choreographed I was grinning from ear to ear.

Yumi & Barry, I wish you nothing but the best in this next chapter of your lives…

bisou bisou!
