A little love from the 2012 Cannes Film Festival!

18 May

I love that my husband is a filmmaker and that we are able to work on a lot of our personal projects together. Last fall we were in Montreal working on a short film he wrote called Ne pas reculer (Broken Clouds). My main role (other than the small cameo they needed) was behind-the-lense as a Second Camera Unit capturing the extra footage that is needed to help tell a story. Since the film was shot on gorgeous 16mm film I was able to use the very same camera I use to film weddings and events.

A few months ago we received some incredible news: Ne pas reculer was going to the Cannes Film Festival – the most prestigious film festival in the world! Both Telefilm Canada and SODEC selected the film to appear as part of the Canadian exhibition at the 2012 Festival. With thousands of talented people making films in Canada each year and to be involved with one of the handful of films that are selected to represent our country is so thrilling! A huge congratulations to the team who created this film – and I am so proud of my hubby!

You can watch a trailer of the touching short film at Telefilm’s “Not Short on Talent” site. A lot of the footage I shot for the film can be seen in this clip – can you tell which parts I filmed?

Yes they are, as well as basically any shot without people in the frame. We rode through and ran the carwash many times that night! ;)

The two times in my life I’ve experienced going through a car wash, I thought it was pretty ‘magical’…this film totally captures that strange excitement!
