Stars on film

24 May

This past March I blogged about being invited to screen a film at the 31st Annual Genies Awards (aka Canada’s Academy Awards) in the Starfish Celebrity Gift Lounge. Of course I had my camera in-hand the whole time to capture all the fun. My husband and I also had tickets to the awards gala so I brought my 16mm movie camera to film some magic moments from this exciting annual event. Well, the vintage film showcasing both the lounge and the gala is now ready for its debut!

Watch below to see Canadian born stars such as William Shatner, Cameron Bright, Rémy Girard, Gregory Smith, Sook-Yin Lee, Melissa Etheridge, Rachelle Lefevre and Jay Baruchel celebrate outstanding achievements in Canadian cinema. How many stars can you spot?

1,000 words

17 May

Over the last week and a half I’ve been living out of a suitcase with trips to New York, Montreal and most recently Edmonton. All this time away has left me little time to blog! So instead of words this week I’d like to share with you an image from last weekend’s 1920′s inspired wedding. Congratulations you two!!

Open air cinema

10 May

Hi everyone! With the beauty of spring now in full bloom here in Ottawa, you are probably planning some special warm weather activities to enjoy with your sweetie. Is catching a summer flick at a drive-in theatre on your list? If not, maybe this little film shot last summer will inspire you to plan a romantic movie night under the stars.

Just for fun, I tossed one roll of 16mm film into my Bolex and filmed at Cine-Parc Templeton as we waited for the show to begin…

The grandest wedding venue

3 May

It’s hard for me to express the countless reasons why I fell in love with film. But one of these reasons is that without film in my life I probably would have never met my husband. So it only made sense to hold our wedding  in a cinema here in Ottawa. But had we tied the knot in Toronto, we would have LOVED to have celebrated at The Eglinton Grand. Let me show you why.

The Eglinton Grand is a 1930′s former movie house has been transformed into a charming full-service facility that can host receptions for up to 750 guests. It still has all it’s stunning original art-deco details that look great on film such as a handmade etched glass mural in the theatre lobby and majestic siren statues that grace the sides of the beautifully decorated theatre screen. Plus, events are truly private at the Eglinton Grand as the venue is always exclusive for the evening!

A few cinematic details that I just love: having the bride and groom’s names on the marquee along with the title of a favorite film or a line from their first dance song…

…and creating a faux movie poster and hanging it at the theatre’s entrance. Both are such romantic and creative ways to set the stage as your guests arrive and showcase your love to anyone who passes by!

So if you live in Toronto, hopefully { First Kiss Films } will soon be coming to a theatre near you!
